My Portfolio

Below are projects I have done in two years working as a junior instructional designer for SEAMEO Regional Training Center (SEAMEO RETRAC) in Vietnam

1. Instructional videos

These videos were created for SEAMEO RETRAC to post on YouTube as supplementary materials for ESL students who are studying online.

What was my role in the project?

I worked with a partner, Ms. Lori Shea, to create these instructional videos. My film production background came in very handy when creating this video as I used many filming and editing techniques.

  • I co-wrote the script

  • I co-storyboarded the entire video before the production phase

  • I filmed the entire video

  • I edited the video using Adobe Premiere and Movavi Video Editor

  • I chose the open-source music and edited it into the video

  • I utilized Adobe Audition to get the best sound quality

  • I made the subtitles using Subtitle Edit.

2. Instructional materials

These flipbooks were created for SEAMEO Regional Training Center as teaching materials for teachers.

What was my role in the project?

I was responsible for converting PDF books into interactive flipbooks for ESL students.

  • I used HTML5 and Dbook Creator to turn PDFs into flipbooks.

  • I added interactive features to the flipbooks, such as hyperlinks, pop-ups, animations, audio, and videos.

  • I published the flipbooks on the Center's LMS.

3. Online training courses

As an academic officer at SEAMEO RETRAC, I redesigned a 2-hour face-to-face training and converted it into a 1h30 online self-paced training. I designed, developed, and implemented this training.

The objective of this online training was to teach new teachers how to use their teaching materials.

What was my role in the project?

  • I designed, developed, and implemented this online training.

  • I broke down the content into 2 main modules and several sub-modules.

  • I storyboarded and wrote all the content in English.

  • I worked very closely with three subject matter experts to ensure the quality and accuracy of the content.

  • I designed and developed all the e-learning modules using Adobe Captivate.

4. My designs

How does my artistic side enhance my work as an instructional designer?

My artistic side enriches my work as an instructional designer and educational technologist in a variety of ways. I am able to see things in new ways, brainstorm ideas that are out of the box, and use my artistic talents to add an aesthetic appeal.

Here are some artworks I created for SEAMEO Regional Training Center in 2020.

Hi there!

Greetings, esteemed readers! It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself as Quynh Nguyen—a dedicated advocate of Instructional Design. Allow me to embark upon this journey alongside you, where language takes center stage and learning becomes an art.  With immense pride, I hold a BA degree in English Linguistics, having emerged as the valedictorian of my course. This accomplishment fuels my determination to delve deeper into language and education, continuously seeking avenues for growth and development. In addition to my linguistic prowess, I have also garnered expertise in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). My fervor for imparting knowledge has led me to embrace this discipline wholeheartedly, culminating in the acquisition of a prestigious TESOL certificate.  For the past three years, I have had the distinct privilege of guiding ESL learners on their language-learning journeys, witnessing firsthand the transformative power of effective instructio...

My definition of Learning/Instructional Design and Technology

Since the emergence of the science of learning and instructional design, there have been numerous attempts to accurately define its essence. In this pursuit, the University of Michigan presented four comprehensive ways to understand it, which encompasses the notions of process, discipline, science, and reality. They described the instructional design as a systematic approach to creating learning experiences that yield desired outcomes, as a field of study incorporating theory, research, and practice, as a body of knowledge rooted in the principles of learning and instruction, and as an iterative process that can start at any point depending on whether the "science" element has been included. (Berger & Kaw, 1996, as cited in Wagner, 2018) To further enhance their definition, I suggest adding one more dimension to Berger and Kaw’s definition, which is, as a tool, instructional design bridges the gaps between learners and their learning outcomes and makes way for effective ...
