From Designer to Developer: Navigating the Challenges and Future of eLearning Creation

For the past few weeks, I have been developing an eLearning module using Articulate Storyline as my final project for LDT 504: Modalities of Learning. This has been one of the most challenging experiences of my learning journey, largely due to time constraints and the wide range of tasks involved. It felt as if I had to take on the entire workload of my company, which specializes in creating eLearning courses. At work, my role is primarily as a curriculum developer, where I draft raw content and rely on various specialized teams to complete the project. The 2D design team handles illustrations, the video production team manages voiceovers and films subject matter experts based on my scripts, and the software development team builds the LMS, uploads my modules, and tests interactive activities and assessments. However, for this project, I had to step into all these roles—becoming the 2D designer, video producer, software developer, and curriculum designer—bringing the entire eLearning m...

Reflections on Digitally-Mediated Learning

In today’s fast-paced world, digitally-mediated learning has become an integral part of our educational journey. From formal online courses to informal learning platforms, these experiences have significantly shaped my personal and professional growth. In this blog post, I reflect on the impact of these learning experiences, highlighting the good and the occasionally frustrating aspects. The extremely good one One of the best courses I’ve had the pleasure of participating in is the online MEd Learning Design & Technology program at Arizona State University, which I’m currently enrolled in. The program is impressively structured, goal-oriented, and led by knowledgeable instructors. The core components of the program cover a broad range of topics, including Learning Theories and Instructional Strategies, Foundations of Learning Design and Technologies, Design and Development of Instruction, Effective Communication Design, Modalities of Learning, etc. These subjects offer a comprehens...

Reflecting on My Journey Through ASU's Design for Disability and Inclusive Learning Design Principles Course

Reflecting on My Journey Through ASU's Design for Disability and Inclusive Learning Design Principles Course After six weeks, I completed ASU's LDT508 course on Design for Disability and Inclusive Learning Design Principles, which reshaped my approach to learning design. Previously unaware of accessibility requirements like alt text and closed captions, I now confidently apply standards for creating inclusive digital learning environments. Accessibility involves proactive steps to remove barriers, requiring ongoing effort and institutional support. Understanding disability demographics from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)'s infographic challenged my assumptions, highlighting the impact of invisible disabilities. Designing accessible courses is essential for fostering inclusive educational environments that support all students' academic and social growth. This course equipped me with knowledge and empathy to effectively accommodate diverse learner needs in educati...

My program evaluation journey

I've just wrapped up the Program Evaluation course - assessing educational programs over 7 demanding weeks. I have to say, this has been my favorite course so far at ASU because of its hands-on, practical approach. Throughout these 7 weeks, it felt like I was immersed in a real work environment, balancing between doing and learning. Here's a brief rundown of my journey: - Week 1: Our professor went out of his way to help us connect with 3-4 NGOs offering open-source courses for evaluation. We then had to write proposals to assess these companies' educational programs. Crafting these proposals required thorough research into the programs, their objectives, and components. We also had to define the evaluation's purpose and outline how we'd tackle it using specific evaluation instruments and data analysis methods. - Week 2: Once our proposals got the green light, our team collaborated with the instructional designers of the companies to develop evaluation instruments. ...
